Sometimes we are able to help arrange outings to the seaside, and other places.
family work

Asylum Welcome has two dedicated family workers who work with refugee and asylum seeking children and families in Oxfordshire. They aim to help and support families coming to the UK, the settling in process, and integrating into the community.

Family workers run appointments in the morning and a ‘drop-in’ in the afternoon dealing with everyday issues such as benefits, housing and homelessness, schools and childcare, maternity and healthcare, money and debt problems.

Advice on immigration issues can be discussed, eg family reunion, leasing with solicitors, Home Office and NASS Travel Documents and Naturalization.

The team can also provide specialized support for women on issues around domestic violence, depression, counselling as well as alternative therapies.

In addition to work that is carried out in the office, family work extends to providing opportunities for families to go on day trips, holidays and for women to attend conferences relating to refugees and asylum issues.

Encouraging families to integrate into life in Oxford is paramount. Through our befriending scheme families have been linked up with befrienders to offer care and support, building good relationships and friendships in the community.

If you know a family who needs urgent help, or if you would like to befriend a family, please e-mail the office or telephone 01865 722 082 for more information.
